    What is a NIC handle?
Every entity registered with InterNIC has a NIC handle. You can use the same NIC handle as the contact for several domains. This way, if you make a change to the NIC handle (i.e., the e-mail address), all domains using that NIC handle will be updated as well.

How can I visit my site before propagation?
There are two methods that have varying chance of success.
Method One: 1) You can use your domain's server IP address, plus your FTP login name like this: http://x.x.x.x/~your_ftp_login_name For instance, if the IP address for your server is 2.2.2.2 and your FTP login username is joe, you can view your site early using: http://2.2.2.2/~joe Case is significant on the login name and don't forget the tilde (~). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Method Two: Open up your hosts file in your local computer. It is usually located in c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. Add two entries to your hosts file like this: x.x.x.x domain.com and x.x.x.x www.domain.com Where the x.x.x.x is your server's IP address.

Can I have multiple domain names pointed to my current website?
Yes, we can point additional domain names to your main account.

    Who is InterNIC?
The InterNIC is an independent organization who, until a few years ago, was the only domain name registar. As a result, 90% of all domain names were registered through them. Many other companies can now register domain names. These include Register.com, Bulkregister.com, Tucows, etc.

Do I need a domain to host a site with The Server Center?
A domain is not necessary to host your site with us. You can use what is called a sub-domain. If you use this method, your site can be accessed in the format http://yourname.theservercenter.net/. You can replace the word "yourname" with anything you want. A domain looks much more professional for a business site, but is usually unnecessary (and is often a waste of money) for a personal site.

How do I transfer my domain name to The Server Center?
First, do a whois search for your domain name and see who the registrar is. You would need to contact that registrar and have them transfer your domain name to our DNS numbers.

    Primary Server Hostname: NS1.THESERVERCENTER.NET
    Primary Server Netaddress: 207.44.144.193

    Secondary Server Hostname: NS2.THESERVERCENTER>NET
    Secondary Server Netaddress: 207.44.144.233

    Why can't I create sub-domains?
If you receive an error when creating sub-domains, open a ticket and request for sub-domains to be enabled.

NOTE: If your domain is not pointing to our nameserver and is still in the progress of been transferred, you CANNOT create sub-domains. You will have to wait until your domain has fully propagated before you can create sub-domains.

What can I expect if I am transferring a domain name to The Server Center?
If you registered your domain name with Network Solutions, The Server Center will handle your transfer. We will send a modification template to Network Solutions, and they will in turn send confirmation of the request via email to the administrative, and technical contact of the domain name involved. Only one person must agree to the email and reply-back to Network Solutions for the transfer to successfully go through.

If you registered your domain name with a registrar other than Network Solutions, we may or may not be able to make the transfer for you. We will contact you to let you know what steps need to be taken.

Who owns the domain name if I purchased it through you?
The domain name is yours completely. If you do decide to not use us as your web host, you can still take the domain name with you to a new web host.

Is there any charge to transfer my domain name to The Server Center?
We will help transfer your domain name to The Server Center at no additional charge.

What are your Primary and Secondary DNS numbers?
    Primary Server Hostname: NS1.THESERVERCENTER.NET
    Primary Server Netaddress: 207.44.144.193

    Secondary Server Hostname: NS2.THESERVERCENTER.NET
    Secondary Server Netaddress: 207.44.144.233

    What is propagation?
Propagation is the period of time, or delay, involved in sending your domain's address information to all the various name servers in the world. Name servers intentionally keep track of addresses for domains in their memory for a specific period of time (defined by the administrator of the name server). This speeds up the process of looking up an address for a domain name. Unfortunately this "cached" information also stays in the name servers when it has been changed at the source of the original information (the domain's registrar).

Name servers refresh themselves from once an hour to once a day. Experience dictates that 3 days is a good estimate for the period of time from when a domain's DNS information is changed at the domain registrar to when everyone in the world can see the change.

What kind of domain TLD's can you initiate domain modification requests for?
    At this time, we can only initiate domain modification requests for domains ending in;
    .com
    .net
    .org

Also, ONLY domains with the above TLD and registered via NetworkSolutions.com are we able to initiate domain modification requests to get your domain delegated to our name servers.

Will I be able to access my domain name with or without the 'www.'?
Yes, you will be able to access the domain name with or without the 'www.' in front. For example, you can access the domain name "mydomain.com" by going to "www.mydomain.com" as well as "mydomain.com".

How long does it take before my domain name is active?
It usually takes about 24-72 hours before it is visible to all users of the Internet. All Internet providers must update their records (DNS tables) to reflect new site locations. This process is called propagation.

Where should I register my domain name?
We recommend you visit the following sites.

    http://www.networksolutions.com/
    http://www.stargateinc.com/
    http://www.register.com/
    http://www.dotster.com/
    http://www.000domains.com/

Can I have additional domain names pointed to a subdirectory on my account?
We can not point the second domain name to a different folder in your main account. Our domain name pointing service will point the second domain name to the same directory of the main website. We do not offer multiple domain name hosting under one package unless stated.

    How do I contact InterNIC?
    URL: http://www.internic.net

    What is a domain name?
A domain name is your address on the Internet. It is linked to a numerical address called an IP address (e.g., 211.225.471.38). The Internet uses Internet Protocol (IP) numbers to locate other computers. Internet users would typically have a hard time remembering these long strings of numbers to find sites. Domain names were developed to allow users to name these (IP) addresses with easy to remember names or phrases.
